Betsy is the former Lieutenant Governor of New York State, host of Newsmax's Wake Up America Weekend show, and a New York Post columnist. She has earned national recognition as a formidable fighter for conservative principles.

Betsy was raised in Connecticut, attending public schools in Milford and then Westport. Her father was a factory worker at the WE Bassett nail clipper factory in Derby. She earned a scholarship to Vassar College, and then a full ride to earn a Ph.D. in constitutional history from Columbia University. She is the author of two prize winning books on the history of the US Constitution and has a lifelong commitment to limited government and the Bill of Rights, including gun rights.

In 1994 she took on Hillary Clinton, exposing the dangers of her Socialist medicine plan. Betsy's attack was so effective that the Democrats in Congress took Hillary's plan off the floor without a vote, and George Pataki drafted her to be his Lieutenant Governor of New York State. Leaning on her healthcare expertise, in 2012, she wrote the New York Times bestseller Beating Obamacare.

 

After leaving office, she took on another battle, this time against killer hospital infections, launching Reduce Infection Deaths, a Connecticut based nonprofit. Before RID, not one state required hospitals to disclose their infection rates. Now 38 do, and RID's heading toward 50. That's results.

Once a land of opportunity, Connecticut now ranks 48th — near dead last — in economic prospects. Betsy's youngest daughter and two of her grandchildren are making their lives in Connecticut, and she wants them, and your children and grandchildren, to have promising career choices. For over five years, she has served on the board of the Yankee Institute, a Connecticut public policy institute committed to improving the state's future.
