Betsy 2026 Press Release – For Immediate Release
Friday, March 27th, 2026 - Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, Dallas Texas
BETSY IS THE CONSERVATIVE IN CONNECTICUT’S RACE FOR GOVERNOR
This morning, on the Main Stage at CPAC, the largest and most influential gathering of Conservatives in the nation, CPAC’s Chairman Matt Schlapp endorsed Betsy McCaughey for Governor of Connecticut.
McCaughey says, “I’m honored by this endorsement, which confirms I am the only Conservative in the race for Governor of Connecticut.”
McCaughey has already earned a reputation as the bold voice for conservatives and Trump supporters in the state. She says, “too many Connecticut Republicans shy away from praising our president, Donald Trump, and are afraid to declare open war against one-party Democratic rule.”
“Democrats Gov. Ned Lamont and AG Tong are so crazed by Trump Derangement Syndrome that they are coddling illegals with criminal records and serious charges, while vilifying ICE and other law enforcement.”
“When I am Governor, the President will have a conservative ally in the state Capitol rather than an adversary. Connecticut will benefit. Not one dollar of taxpayer money will be spent on illegals.”
“It’s crazy for a state to be at war with the President.”
“I am emulating President Trump, who cowers before no one. Like Trump, I will govern for the people, not government bureaucrats and career politicians.”
“Democrats are taxing the state into an economic death spiral.”
McCaughey reiterated her plan to eliminate the Connecticut state income tax and make Connecticut “the tax haven of the Northeast, think Florida without the palm trees.”
She said her campaign is inspired by her youth growing up in Connecticut with her factory-worker father, who worked at the W.E. Bassett nail clipper factory in Derby. Eliminating the income tax, she explained, will bring companies to Connecticut and restore prosperity.
She thanked Steve Moore, economic advisor to the President, Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, and “our great President, Donald Trump” for encouraging her to “axe the tax.”
Carrying a map of the US with tax cutting states highlighted to the podium, McCaughey said other states such as Oklahoma, Kentucky and Mississippi are proving it can be done. It does not create a huge hole in state budgets. It’s gradual and fiscally responsible. “Every dollar of new revenue must go to reduce the income tax. Not one dollar spent on new programs until the tax is eliminated.”
